This is a specialist course for teachers in the prep sector, who are involved in coaching Age Grade Rugby from the introduction of contact skills, through to the Under 12 game. It will explain how these Rules develop at each age group, and the implications for refereeing school matches at various stages. There will also be a focus on coaching the game in the school setting, to enable players of all ages and abilities to overcome apprehension and learn to enjoy developing skill and evasion. It will also encourage teachers to be confident that they are delivering the game safely, with an emphasis on contemporary coaching of the new tackle laws, contact area and scrum.

Course Leaders
Dan Cottrell
Dan has been coaching rugby in schools, clubs, and at representative level for over 30 years. He is head coach of Bristol Schools U18s and centre manager for the Bristol Bears Junior Academy. He is editor of Rugby Coach Weekly, which has been running since 2003 and has a worldwide following. He played first-class rugby for Bristol and Bath and was director of rugby at Cranleigh.
