The landscape of Hockey in schools is a rapidly developing one. Heads of Hockey face the twin challenges of managing the programme, as well as leading a team of coaches to ensure that the game is delivered in line with contemporary strategies. The importance of dynamic leadership, by well-informed experts, has never been more significant.
The Talent Pathway has considerable implications for school Hockey, as do the various Tier competitions. A dedicated group has been liaising with England Hockey on these issues, and lobbying for outcomes better suited to schools. Michael Johnson has been part of this committee, and will report on its discussions and recommendations.
The Olympic Games always present a watershed for technical development, and influence the domestic game in the following years. The GB captain, David Ames leading an all-international team of presenters on the penalty corner lessons from the Games and is followed by the GB goalkeeping coach, Mark Hickman, who will present the latest strategies for coaching ‘keepers.
This will be an informative day for leaders of school Hockey who wish to stay abreast of developments on and off the pitch. It will also provide an opportunity to network with like-minded professionals.
