Course Description

This course is designed for aspiring and newly appointed Subject Leaders of Physical Education, providing the knowledge, skills and confidence required to lead the subject effectively and achieve outstanding outcomes for students. The programme draws on current research, inspection expectations and developments within PE to support leaders in shaping high-quality provision. Participants will explore what effective practical PE lessons look like, how to establish consistent standards and how to create meaningful learning pathways that meet the needs of all students. The course will also examine curriculum planning, including the role of GCSE, A Level and vocational qualifications, and how these can form part of a coherent and progressive PE journey.

PE Scholar

Will Swaithes is Education Director at PE Scholar, providing training, consultancy and resources to support teachers in schools of all types. He has been involved in recent changes in the subject at national level, and is leader of the Oak Project.  He leads the secondary PGCE programme at Birmingham City University, and was previously Head of Physical Education and Achievement for Youth Sport Trust
