Course Description

This is a course for coaches of Cricket who have some experience, and wish to update their coaching in line with the most modern methods.  It will present the technical, tactical and practical skills necessary to develop players for modern Cricket.  It will cover all the Cricket disciplines of batting, bowling and fielding to enable the school team coach to work with all their players, and be confident that they are giving them the most accurate and contemporary guidance. This will also provide a framework for fault correction and coaching effectiveness.   It will also feature the most modern practice methods, and innovative ways of maximising team training time

Batting

  • Set up, alignment and bat path
  • Footwork against pace and spin
  • Power hitting and boundary options
  • Rotating the strike and building and innings in different formats

Bowling

  • Understanding the technical components of bowling
  • Achieving accuracy and consistency
  • Swing, seam and spin
  • Developing variations

Fielding

  • Catching and ground fielding
  • Diving and stopping techniques
  • Throwing mechanics and accuracy
  • Match based fielding drills

Course leaders

Richard Johnson

Meet your course leader, Richard Johnson

Richard Johnson has worked for the past 16 years in professional and international cricket. He is now a lead fast bowling coach, and was previously Head Coach, of Middlesex CCC. He is a former international fast bowler, playing over 165 First Class matches.

Meet your course leader, Tim Dellor

Tim Dellor's cricket coaching career has taken him to West Indies, Zimbabwe, Australia, and across Europe. He currently leads Zimbabwe's coach development programme, and is head coach of Greece. Closer to home, he coaches Berkshire, and works in academy and school programmes. Until recently he spent 15 years heading up the ECBs Level 3 Coach Development programme. He still works for the ECB as a coach mentor.

When he is not coaching, he spends his time commentating for the BBC, covering football, horse racing and rowing. He has been a BBC sports broadcaster for more than 25 years, and has reported from Olympic Games, World Cups, Royal Ascot and Cheltenham, and a host of other major events.

Tim is married, with two teenage children, and without wishing to give away his age, has just started playing Over 50s cricket, in which he bowls very loopy non-spinning off spin.
