National Prep Schools’ Hockey Conference - Thursday 16 October in Oxford

This annual conference is aimed at hockey coaches coaching in Prep Schools and more specifically the 7-a-side game played at u13 level and below. This practical conference is all about the basics done well and making sure young hockey players have a strong skill set foundation and understanding of the game to build upon.

Hockey skills and drills are similar to senior school hockey but the surrounding of smaller pitches, numbers and ability levels vary within the prep game, so coaching practices and programmes should be delivered accordingly and with purpose.

Speakers

David Ames OLY

David Ames has recently retired from International Hockey after an outstanding career which included playing and captaining Great Britain, England and Ireland. A career that lasted over 20 years and included over 200 international caps. During this time, David was a three time Olympian, representing Great Britain in the Rio, Tokyo and Paris Olympics. David played Premier Division Men’s Hockey for Beeston and Holcombe and won Player of the year in 2016.

Susannah Townsend, MBE

Susannah Townsend, MBE is a former GB international with 188 caps across a 13-year career. She won a Gold Medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics and a Bronze at Tokyo in 2020. She has two Commonwealth Games medals and a Gold in European Championships. She is currently leading the Canterbury Ladies 1st XI in the England Hockey League and recently spent a season in the U.S. as Assistant Coach at Fairfield University, wining the league and becoming NEC Champions.
