Hockey at Under 13 and below is played 7-a-side. This is the stage at which a sound foundation of basic skills and game understanding is established. Although many of the techniques are similar to the full game, the tactical implications of a smaller pitch demand an alternative approach. The abbreviated game also provides opportunities to introduce tactical dimensions of the full game, such as strategies for long corners, hits around the circle and the self pass.
