Course Description

This three-part, online, course provides everything necessary to maximise applications for these positions. The first two Units will explain the role of the Director of Sport as leader, cultural architect and quality controller: the third will consider programme issues and priorities. The final session will consider all dimensions of the job application and selection process to enable candidates to present themselves at their very best. This unique content results from the experience of making more than 50 Director of Sport appointments, conducting over 200 interviews and reading nearly 2000 letters of application.

This course will be run once in the 2026/27 year, specifically for people intending to apply for these jobs in the future.

Meet your course leader, Neil Rollings

Neil Rollings was Director of Sport in four independent schools, over a 21-year career. He now works with schools in UK and overseas, developing sports programmes and appointing Directors of Sport. He is a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on a Fit and Healthy Childhood, was Chairman of the Professional Association of Directors of Sport in Independent Schools, and is Course Director of the University of Buckingham MA programme in Leading School Sport.

How it works

Up to 5 members of staff from your school can join the webinar together, each logging in from their own device, one flat rate covers everyone, rather than booking individually. Your Zoom link will be sent to each participant's email address ahead of the session, so make sure you provide a name and email for everyone who's attending. As with our individual bookings, a recording is available for 48 hours afterwards for anyone who can't make the live session.

Frequently Asked Questions

: Cancellations require a minimum of 14 days' notice. Cancelling within 14 days of the event incurs a fee, £30 per person for online courses and webinars, or £100 per person (per day, for multi-day events) for in-person courses. Cancelling within 48 hours of the event is charged at the full price. If ICE Education has to cancel or change a course, we'll try to rebook you onto the same or a similar course, if that's not possible, you'll be refunded in full.
: The same cancellation policy applies (see above) — let us know as soon as possible. Cancelling with at least 14 days' notice avoids a cancellation fee.
: Recordings of webinars remain available to book attendees for 48 hours after the live session, after which they're no longer accessible.
: A School Subscription gives up to 5 colleagues from your school access to the course from 5 separate devices, for one discounted rate rather than booking individually.
: Yes, schools can reclaim the VAT on all ICE Education courses. VAT invoices are provided regardless of which payment method you choose.
